Life for a week

Long time, no blog! Well, our week at the beach has come and gone and I am sad to say we are back to the hustle and bustle, of well, life. It was a very much needed break though, and as you will see from the pictures below, we relaxed and chilled to the max! We read, slept, ate, swam, laughed, tubed, fished, cooked, played {games}, etc.

This family beach trip was different from any other beach trip we've been on before. We had a new member to add to the bunch, and his name is....{I bet you can't guess!}

 Little Sam!

Isn't he precious!?

I love this little baby! Without him, this years family beach trip, would not have been complete!

Uncle Bubba, Aunt Bugsy, and Aunt Nana

Uncle Cuz Will
Sweet Daddy and Mommy
Along with Sam, we also had another fun addition to our beach trip this year....Stephanie! Stephanie is our brother's girlfriend, and we had so much fun getting to spend time with her this past week.

Ben and Steph

The gang
Very silly together. Hey, y'all, "I got no strings to hold me down!"
Speaking of Stephanie, I know I mentioned to you in the last post about us girls going to watch her in the Miss Mississippi Talent Prelims before we went to the beach. Well, let me just tell you, she not only WON Talent Prelims, but she also got 4th alternate in the Miss Mississippi pageant. We were so proud of her!

One of the highlights of our trip was not only celebrating the 4th of July, but also celebrating Dad's birthday on the 3rd.

Happy Birthday, Daddy!
Cute Parents
Where's Hannah?
We always tell my dad his birthday is extra special because he gets fireworks every year on his birthday :)

One of my favorite things my dad brings with him on our beach trips is his baby boat.

Cruising the bay
Tubing on the bay
One afternoon our brother Ben took Hannah, Will, and I out on the boat to tube. I haven't tubed in a couple of summers at least, and boy did I feel it the next day and the day after that and day after that.  I'm pretty sure I used muscles that day that I didn't even know I had, but it was worth all the soreness in the world--we had so much fun!

While my dad would take the guys out fishing some mornings, we girls {and Sam} would hit up the pool or the beach!

Momma Kat and me

Mom and I again
happy place :)
I wish I would have taken pictures of all the delicious meals we had on the trip, but even pictures wouldn't do justice to how yummy everything was. From kabobs to our shrimp boil, we ate well! We often tease my older sister Amy about how organized and planned she is, but truth is, if it was left up to my little sister, brother, and me, I don't know if things would get done. So here is a picture of me with two of the most organized and efficient women I know!

Thanks you two for everything you did to make our trip so wonderful!
Well, folks, that pretty much sums up our week long trip in a nutshell! We did go to the Track one night and ride go-carts and got ice-cream, but sadly I didn't document pictures of that. I do have a "you had to be there kind-of stories" to tell or else you may not think it's that funny. But, picture with me Amy and Ben riding go-cart doubles. A little kid t-bones their cart {at full speed}, they cause a traffic jam at the front of the race with every cart on the track hitting bumpers left and right{I'm pretty sure some people experienced whiplash!}. It was a pretty funny sight!

I also need to tell you about my new loves I discovered while on the trip: banana grams, Mexican train, coke zero, coca almonds, and pretzels and hummus!

I've always been an avid diet coke fan, but I might just say that coke zero is even better than diet coke.
Did I just say that? How many of you think coke zero is better than diet coke?

Please let me know who you are by becoming a follower or commenting! Sometimes, I wonder if I am  writing to myself or if it would just be easier to download the pictures on facebook. Let me know who you are {if you are still with me after this rather lengthy post!}Thanks, y'all :) Until next time!

Workin' for the weekend

Goodmorning, blogger friends! So sorry I've been remiss from the blog for the past couple of weeks, but not a whole, whole lot has been going on around here other than working, Will's summer school night classes, and trying to keep up the house. Boring, I know, but everybody has to put their work in sometime, right?

Thankfully, all of this hard work is going to pay off for both Will and I when we go to the beach for a week with my family this Saturday! I have never looked forward to a vacation this much in my life! My whole family will be there and this happens very far and in between now-a-days.

I can't wait to put my toes in the sand and float in this beautiful water!
The thing I am looking forward to the most about this vacation is reading on the beach, relaxing by the pool, laughing and cutting up {"playing grab booty" as my dad calls it} with my siblings, boat-rides on the bay, shrimp boil, the list could go on...Needless to say I can't wait to get away from "life" for a few days.

Before going to the beach, I want to paint my nails this color....what do you think?

I've always been a pink and red nail-polish kind-of girl, but I kinda think the blue is funky and fun. I know it has been a big trend this summer so I think I'm gonna try it too!

Also, I want to get this book to read before the movie comes out August 12th.

How cool is it that part of the movie was filmed in Jackson's downtown Fondren?
Another fun fact I have about The Help is that I met the twin little girls who play Mae Mobley in the movie. They are just as cute in real life as I know they will be in the movie! Can't wait to see it :)

Also, how could I forget to mention, we will be cheering on my little brother's girlfriend, Stephanie Stanford {Miss Delta Blues} on Saturday night in the Miss Mississippi Pageant from Perdido Key! My mom, sister, and I will be making the trip to Vicksburg on Friday night before going to the beach to watch her in the Talent Prelims. We know she will do wonderfully!

Ben, Stephanie, Will and I last weekend! We love her!
Well, that's all I have! Can't wait for Thursday 4 o'clock to get here so my 11 day vacation can start. Needless to say, "I'm working for the weekend." Have a great day y'all!

Easy-Peasy Blueberry Cobbler

Hello, readers! Hope you all had a nice, relaxing weekend. Will and I did! We did absolutely nothing, and I was completely okay with that! It's good to have a little down-time once in a while.

So from the last post you read, Will and I went blueberry pickin', and we have over 4 gallons of blueberries at our home that are just waiting to be eaten! We've enjoyed eating them already by putting them on our cereal in the mornings and making blueberry pancakes.

We also enjoyed eating the blueberries in the Easy-Peasy Blueberry Cobbler I made. My Maw-maw baked this cobbler all growing up and she taught me how to make it in the sixth grade. Yes, it is that easy and very yummy!

Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups of fresh blueberries
2/3 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of water
1 stick of butter
3/4 cup of sugar (different use)
3/4 cup of self-rising flour
3/4 cup milk
Ice cream or whipped cream  or both :)

One of the things I love about this cobbler recipe is that all of the ingredients pretty much live in the kitchen already and the only ingredient I had to buy was the cool whip!

Mix blueberries, 2/3 cup of sugar, and 1/2 cup of water in saucepan.

In a 9x13 Pyrex, place stick of butter and put in oven on 350 degrees to melt.
In a bowl, mix 3/4 cup of sugar, 3/4 cup of self-rising flour, and 3/4 cup of milk. Mix well.
Check on blueberry mixture, and make sure it comes to a good boil.
Pour flour mixture  over melted butter, and then pour blueberry mixture over that. DO NOT STIR. Place in oven on 350 for 35-40 minutes or until brown.
Voila!
Serve with ice cream or whip cream or both! Enjoy!
Hope you enjoy this sweet treat as much as we do! Let me know if you try it, and if you like it! Also, if you have any other blueberry recipes, please share :)

The Blueberry Patch

Will and I have had a fun weekend! Very hot, but fun! We loaded up our car when I got off of work on Thursday and headed south to Will's hometown of Laurel for a couple of days. One of our favorite things to do in the summertime is to go to "The Blueberry Patch" at his grandparents' house.

There is over an acre long of big, beautiful blueberry bushes with millions of ripe, delicious berries on them just waiting to be picked. So, Will and I grabbed some buckets and went to town pickin'.

We picked....

and picked....

My favorite thing was to come across a cluster like these and they would just fall right into your hands when touched. They were like grapes!

Did I mention how hot it was though? Well, it was. But that was part of the fun and that sure didn't stop us from getting our blueberry pickin' fix.

We had the best time!

We picked over 4 gallons of beautiful blueberries!

Once we got back to Will's parents' house, we spread all of the blueberries out on a beach towel to sort through the bad {not so firm} ones.

I'm happy to say that there weren't very many bad ones in the bunch! After sorting through, we bagged the berries up in 16 different quart size zip-lock bags. I am so excited to have these blueberries to use for our cereal, blueberry pancakes, blueberry cobbler, and blueberry pound-cake!

Do any of you have any other ideas or recipes that call for blueberries?! I'm definitely needing some!
